There's a collective freakout spreading online today following John Holdren's comments about the POTENTIAL need to take drastic measures to stave off climate change. Often called "geoengineering," it encompasses ideas ranging from literally shielding the earth from the Sun using filters in space to some forms of carbon sequestration. It's difficult to tell whether these comments are intended as a trial balloon (but then, well-executed trial balloons don't exactly declare themselves), but it's sure to create some licensing opportunities for the Discovery Channel as broadcasters try to explain the concept to the public.
Here's the news feed on the topic from Google, and through the social web, reports from the most authoritative blogs and chatter on Twitter.
As for this blog, well, it was time to add a tag for geoengineering stories anyway.
